Panqueque con Dulce de Leche (Dulce de Leche Crepes)

The origin of this dessert is fascinating and steeped in history. About 1,500 years ago, during Lent, certain foods like butter, eggs, cheese, or milk were prohibited. To innovate during this period, people crafted pasta made of wheat flour and water, cooking it on hot stones in thin layers. As dietary restrictions eased, milk, eggs, and butter were incorporated into the pasta, evolving it into the beloved treat we enjoy today.

Ingredients

2 cups whole milk

3 large eggs

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 tbsp sugar

½ tsp salt

1 can of Dulce de Leche (13.4 oz can)

1 stick of butter (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, eggs, all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Heat the Pan:

Grease a small pan with a small amount of butter and heat it over medium-high heat.

Cook the Crepes:

Pour approximately ¼ cup of the batter into the heated pan. Swirl the pan to spread the batter evenly, creating a thin layer.

Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the crepe and cook for another 2 minutes on the other side.

Remove the crepe from the pan and set it aside.

Repeat this process with the remaining batter, ensuring to grease the pan with butter as needed to prevent sticking.

Fill the Crepes:

Spread about 1 tablespoon of dulce de leche onto each crepe. Roll up the crepe tightly to enclose the filling.

Garnish and Serve:

Garnish the crepes with any remaining dulce de leche.

Serve warm and enjoy this delicious Argentine treat!

Tips for the Perfect Crepes

Consistency of Batter: Ensure the batter is smooth and free of lumps. If needed, you can use a blender to mix the ingredients.

Temperature Control: Keep an eye on the pan's temperature. If the crepes are browning too quickly, reduce the heat slightly.

Even Coating: Swirl the pan quickly after adding the batter to ensure an even coating for thin and delicate crepes.

Enjoy making and savoring these delightful Panqueques con Dulce de Leche!
